Kettlebell conditioning is some of the best overall conditioning that benefits every sport. When you use the word conditioning, it refers to being prepared. Sports conditioning is body preparation for the grueling moves and force that most athletic activities place on the body. A good sport conditioning program will contain specific components. These components include good nutrition, cardiovascular health, and strength training.
Kettlebell conditioning is ideal for sports training because you get both cardiovascular and strength training in one program. Almost every training program now contains some kind of weightlifting element. Muscle strength is necessary for developing the other physical attributes necessary to be successful at athletics. These include speed and endurance, both of which are qualities all sports require. Kettlebell conditioning is unique in that the exercises strengthen the entire body, not just small groups of frequently used muscles.
Kettlebell conditioning is particularly advantageous for martial arts training and bodybuilding. Kettlebells were actually adopted years ago by the Russian Special Forces because they can develop overall body strength needed for intense combat activities. The martial arts programs have adopted kettlebell conditioning programs because muscles are developed to capacity and pain thresholds are raised. Also, martial arts moves rely heavily on a well–developed core muscle group with lots of stability. The accuracy and power of the kicks requires intense conditioning of the hips and abdomen. That is exactly what kettlebell conditioning can achieve.
Kettlebell conditioning is also perfect for bodybuilding. The kettlebell drills and repetitions increase strength and endurance while building muscle. The contraction and release of the body’s muscles during the powerful exercises using weights adds to the muscle definition so desired by bodybuilders. Kettlebell exercises also increase stability of the joints. When you use kettlebells for sport training, the entire body is strengthened. But kettlebell training programs also burn fat. That is important to bodybuilders who want to display muscle outlines, and to martial arts athletes who need to be lithe and supple. Kettlebell training increases speed and stamina also.
If the conditioning you can get by using kettlebells sounds almost too good to be true – it’s not! Kettlebell conditioning is hard to beat using any other training program. It increases grip strength, makes injury less likely, makes joints more able to absorb force, and will build muscle with or without mass depending on the program design. Women can condition with kettlebells also. In fact, the kettlebell exercises will achieve many of the results they strive for through a myriad of other programs such as aerobic classes and Pilates. Kettlebell training works faster and better.
To achieve the best conditioning results, learn all the kettlebell exercises. Develop the right form. Then practice each exercise until you can perform each repetition properly. No sloppy moves are allowed. Develop a program you can follow each week. Plan on regular progression in terms of weights and repetitions. It is advisable to work with a coach or personal trainer until you make sure you have developed the proper techniques for each exercise.
Kettlebell training is fun! You can feel the power of your body developing as you work the weights to their advantage. Kettlebell conditioning prepares you for any and every sport. It conditions the body as a unit so that explosive moves, sport specific action, and power can be accessed for athletic success. Even if you want to just be in the best shape of your life, kettlebells are the best choice.
