Kettlebell plyometrics are exercises that do more than develop explosive force. Kettlebells train the body to develop and control the force needed for competitive training or sports. Plyometrics are a particular set of exercises that strengthen muscles so they can produce the power needed with quickness essential to the move. All sports training uses plyometrics – basketball, baseball, football, weightlifting and so on.
Plyometrics focus on developing quick power moves that are controlled. Some people make the mistake of training only for the power portion of the move without developing the power to change the move or bring it to a sudden stop. In other words, it doesn’t do any good to learn how to snatch weights quickly if you don’t have the strength to do anything with them after the snatch.
It does a basketball player no good to develop powerful quads for rapid movement across the court, if he or she cannot suddenly stop and pivot and stop again if necessary. It sounds so basic, but these kinds of athletic moves require special training. Kettlebell plyometrics are perfect for the kind of training needed for full development of power moves from beginning to end.
Many of the kettlebell exercises inherently use plyometrics. Even the very basic kettlebell clean is an exercise whereby you use one fluid motion from the ground to the rack and back to the ground in a way that controls the bell and your body at all times. It involves snapping, quick power moves, and control of the weight until it once again rests on the ground.
Kettlebell plyometrics teaches muscles to control maximum output. When a muscle extends and then contracts, the amount of force produced is dependent upon the quickness of the movement. If you extend a muscle and it’s not followed immediately by a contraction, the stored energy is lost. Plyometrics are exercises that develop the ability to take advantage of the power of the muscle during sporting activities.
Kettlebell plyometrics teach all the force moves.
Though plyometrics deals with maintaining muscle force through explosive moves, the body must be able to endure a series of such moves during sporting activities. As a result, kettlebell plyometrics also teaches muscle endurance so that you finish the sets with full muscle power. Examples of the types of kettlebell exercises that are plyometric include the following.
These are just a few of the exercises that develop explosive power and timing muscle coordination. There are dozens of others that you can use to develop power and flexibility for complex athletic moves. Kettlebells also offer another advantage. They develop precision movements. It is the ultimate control of muscle power.
No matter what sport you are training for at the time, kettlebell plyometrics will develop the power moves necessary for muscle control. Sports are about competition and winning. The kettlebell teaches technical skill, endurance, power, and explosive strength with control. Those are all the qualities you need to be the best athlete possible. Begin training with kettlebells and the change in your muscle power will be noticeable within 2 weeks. This is true for both beginners and experienced weight lifters.
